India: Learning for all
Education in India was in the spotlight at Althorp House as guests at a reception on 5 May 2017 were treated to an insight of the brilliant research and work being undertaken by University Professor Richard Rose.
Guests were wowed by the stunning state room where the event was held and were treated to music performed by the talented young people from the Northamptonshire Music & Performing Arts Trust (NMPAT)
They were welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor Nick Petford and the then newly elected Chancellor Rev. Richard Coles.
The project that Professor Rose is leading along with visiting Professor Jayanthi Narayan (photo below), reflects the values of enabling positive social change that sits at the core of the University’s mission.
The innovative project will educate Indian students from disadvantaged backgrounds in an MA in Special Educational Needs and Inclusion. The Indian students will gain new skills so that they have the capacity and capability to return to India, bringing their expertise with them to further educate disadvantaged communities.
Professor Rose stated that the project “will provide teachers with the skills, knowledge and understanding to develop inclusive approaches to teaching and learning to promote equity and social justice for children, teachers and families.”
Guests were encouraged to support us so that we can provide more opportunities for students in India, do further research and provide resources for us to engage with other partners to understand how we can provide education to vulnerable children.
